GSP Production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’: 15th March 2019
‘Twelfth Night’ charts the amusing entanglements between Duke Orsino of Illyria, who is in love with Olivia and shipwrecked Viola, who masquerades as Cesario and is later sent by Orsino to woo Olivia and the woven web that ensues.
As one would expect from one of Shakespeare’s plays, the Twelfth Night plot is teeming with disguise, hidden identity and the obligatory unrequited love. Using the script that was edited by Hayley Stewart from Kingsholm C of E Primary School, the GSP’s young thespians were able to understand and follow the story, so every scene was delivered brilliantly.
Eleven GSP Schools took part in the production: Coopers Edge School; Beech Green Primary; Linden Primary; Kingsholm C of E Primary; Hardwicke Parochial Primary; Barnwood Primary; Longlevens Infant School; Harewood Junior School; Widden Primary; Calton Primary; and Dinglewell Junior School.
There were two performances of the play during the day, with pupils from each school delivering their scenes in front of their peers and families, with amazing confidence and clear enjoyment.
This was the first year in which the GSP had worked with Sir Thomas Rich’s Teaching School, benefitting from CPD with their Drama Lead and performing in their school hall, which had the capacity to comfortably hold more than 200 parents on the day, who had all bought tickets to watch their children perform.
